U-16 boys team is undefeated after scoring the most goals of any team
Wilson, N.C., (Dec. 14, 2015) — The first round of the US Youth Soccer National League group play concluded yesterday in Wilson, N.C., and La Roca South Under-16 boys came home as the group leader, winning all four of its matches and scoring more goals than any other team in the tournament. La Roca South CS 99/00 Premier, coached by Celso Santos, finished perfect in the Blue Division scoring 16 goals while allowing just one.
La Roca FC, Utah’s most trophied youth soccer club, took the U-16 boys team to the tournament after qualifying for the prestigious event by winning out in the Far West Regional Desert Premier League, which is comprised of the best competitive soccer teams in the Mountain West region of the United States.
Adolfo Ovalle, club founder and technical director, said the team is a special group. “These boys having been working hard and pushing each other at the highest level for several years now. Their work is starting to pay off as we just witnessed the domination over the best teams in the country. The boys and coaches deserve all of their success.”
La Roca South CS 99/00 (UT) made its most impressive showing by beating defending national champions Sporting KC Academy (KS) 7-1 in its third game of the tournament. The first half started with a flurry of goals with La Roca’s Agustin Asensio starting the scoring in just the 2nd minute and teammate Walter Henriquez adding a second in the 6th minute to give the Utah side a 2-0 lead. Sporting’s Jonathan Munoz cut the lead in half six minutes later but La Roca’s Jose Pizano scored almost immediately to resume La Roca’s two goal advantage. Agustin Asensio added his second of the game in the 23rd minute to give La Roca a 4-1 lead going into half. La Roca didn’t take its foot off the gas as it added three more goals in the second half. Isai Mendoza was the recipient of a gift as the Sporting keeper spilled a shot and Mendoza tapped it in for a goal. Teammates Sebastiaan Van Thiel and Shadrach Preece finished the scoring for Utah in the 68th and 73rd minutes. La Roca South won its other three matches over national challengers by a combined score of 9-0, making it the most prolific attacking team in the tourney. The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues (US Youth Soccer Region I Champions League, Midwest Regional League, Southern Regional Premier League and Far West Regional League). The National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development and opportunities for exposure at the national team, collegiate and professional levels.
